Generally spoken, i.e. all merits included, I'd rather arrange the brands in groups, for instance (in random order):
Traditional manufacturers at the very top:
Lange, PP, VC, AP and Breguet
Ditto, close behind:
JLC, GO, Girard-P, Blancpain, IWC - maybe also Chopard L.U.C., Droz and UN
High-end sport:
Rolex, Panerai, Hublot, IWC
Special manufacturers / independents:
Journe, Genta, Roth, Mille, Winston, Smith, Voutilainen and some more
And then you have some fine manufacturers like Omega and Seiko with a wide range of watches from the very cheap to high-end competitive.
And a closer inspection on specific watches mixes removes many borders. The Three-Bridges from GP, the Grand Complication from IWC, many JLCs are not lesser than any of the first group. And the "specials" can beat anyone with particular watches - Journe for instance.
Sven
