Pre-SIHH 2015: Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum - my initial thoughts

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 14th, 2014-18:11
Many of us PuristS love Worldtimer watches, especially those of us who travel and/or have global/regional responsibilities in our work and business. Montblanc has a few worldtime watches in its current Star and Timewalker collection, namely the Star Woldt...

i have great sympathy with trveler

I agree!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:43
Especially business Travelers who often sacrifice family when they travel for work. That's why a nice Worldtime watch to admire on those long trips help! :) Or any nice watch for that matter :) Cheers Robin

Man, this is beautiful!

The true world-time mechanism is a very welcoming introduction to this line. Can't wait to see it in person!

Me too!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:44
Definitely can't wait till 2015! Am with you on this Luis! Cheers Robin

Thanks Robin.

Will keep a look out to see one in the flesh. Meanwhile, have added this to my wishlist. Cheers ~

Your wishlist has like 100000 watches lol!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:45
One more bro! :p Next year when it arrives in Singapore, let's see it together! Cheers Robin

That one I have to see in the flesh. I am a big world time watch lover.

 By: amanico : December 14th, 2014-22:46
I love a lot of things on that Watch. The complication, of course, the way it is displayed, the not too big nor thick case... One thing I regret, but maybe Montblanc can correct that... The minute indexes all around the blue and white ring... It was not n...

Glad you like it Nicolas

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:46
Good feedback. Let's bring it to Montblanc. Agree the dial is otherwise perfect. Actually I love what I'm seeing already on the press pics. Looking forward to seeing it in the metal Cheers Robin

Don't think so my friend...

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-19:38
too far for me and with 3 kids, very tough to travel there! cheers robin

Very interesting!

 By: Esharp : December 14th, 2014-23:55
Thanks Robin - this is rather appealing! I have issues with world time watches. As I said in another post recently, the city ring is often completely dominant (my criticism of the VC worldtimer), they don't deal with summer time very well (half the world ...

Agree my friend

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:48
There is no perfect WT watch. Lots of blue on the dial is a good start and a discreet brand name too on the dial. Your suggestion on the city ring is an interesting one indeed! Let's feedback to the brands Cheers Robin

Even the first one for SIHH is very promising ...

 By: small-luxury-world : December 15th, 2014-00:24
to say the least. So far I like it a lot, but (as always) it has to be seen in the metal and on my/the wrist :-) Thanks, Robin! Oliver

I think you will like it Oliver!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:49
For me I hope the 41mm is not a problem for my small wrist. If so I need the bracelet version to hide the lugs length a bit :) But i think a WT cannot be too small else it will be hard to read the cities Cheers Robin

Prices in Euro from Montblanc HQ

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-05:53
Steel version at EUR 4,990. Pink gold version at EUR 13,900. Tempting at such attractive prices indeed! The steel version especially of course. Once again Montblanc is going for complications at competitive prices as they did with the Heritage Perpetual C...

Those prices!

 By: gyang333 : December 15th, 2014-07:32
Are very accessible! Well done once again Montblanc!

Agree! It's definitely a pleasing move

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-19:39
to help more people become WIS like us! :D cheers robin

I have a feeling....

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-19:39
we will like this new WT more than our current Star WT Luis! :p Cheers robin

That's exactly what I feel at the moment.

 By: Luis6 : December 16th, 2014-03:43
By the way, are you hinting a possibility for both of us getting another pair of brother watches? I just showed you report to my wife, and she said the Orbis Terranum is beautiful! She also asked about the price, and the affordability did surprise her. So...

to be seen and 2 questions

 By: patrickh : December 15th, 2014-06:52
- do you have a photo of the back side? - Do you think Montblanc will change the Moscow position before delivery? Very interesting model (copying VC Patrimony Heures du Monde), but very affordable. Thanks Patrickh

Some answers Patrickh

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-19:44
I don't have a pic of the movement. I know it's a Sellita base movement with the WT complication developed in-house by Montblanc. I have requested for the movement pics and will share once I have them. Yes, I can confirm on the cities ring, Moscow will be...

Very nice but...

 By: foversta : December 15th, 2014-13:00
When I saw it, I immediatly thought about the Patrimony World Time. In a way, it is good news for Montblanc. But the trend for the Heritage collection seems to become an affordable offer of some classics from other companies of Richemont. Don't get me wro...

Hmmm, indeed some similarities with the VC WT

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 15th, 2014-19:51
Not all similar though. I think the MB Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum's continents (land mass) are shaded darker for night indication whereas the VC WT's is a half disc shading half the globe. I need to see in the metal to confirm. I get your point Fx on ...

In-house WT complication (manufacture complication) on a Sellita base indeed

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:16
Thanks Fx for answering Nico (sorry I was busy yesterday). cheers robin

looks nice with Bracelet

 By: patrickh : December 16th, 2014-04:40
I think I should prefer the bracelet version. Official Price is 5250€. Which one do you prefer on photo (to be confirmed in real on wrist)? BRs, Patrickh ...

You mean for the bracelet version?

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:46
I think it's the pictures... can't be different for the real models (it's just strap vs bracelet - the case should be exactly the same) Cheers robin

The bracelet version costs only 260€ more.

 By: Luis6 : December 16th, 2014-06:16
That could be a big deal maker for me.

Same here bro!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:48
If we like the bracelet, it's usually cheaper to get it with the watch and then get a strap separately. The other route of getting the strap version first and then buy a separate bracelet tends to be more expensive. cheers robin

 By: Todd B. : December 18th, 2014-09:39
If they have a sleet bracelet version I'm in. First I'm gonna add the Moonphase steel to my wishlist and this will be a close second.

Let me check :)

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:53
I think it's still prototype stage so not a final dial yet but it's getting closer :) Probably at SIHH a more "final" dial will be there. Cheers robin

I prefer the steel with black strap.... but if a tad big for me....

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:45
then the bracelet is good to hide the gap between the lugs :) The bracelet looks cool and is useful for warm Singapore too. Thanks for sharing the price and pics Patrickh! Cheers robin

This is going to be truly amazing... Not to mention sold out...

 By: patrick_y : December 16th, 2014-09:06
Wow, if this watch looks good in person and operates like it's supposed to operate, this watch will be sold out for the next year or so! Basically, it's a Patek Philippe WorldTime at a fraction (1/5 to 1/4) of the cost (in steel). This is a good sign. Lou...

Looks like many PuristS are pleased! :)

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:48
Agree with your points Patrick! Good potential for this to grow to be a community watch! Cheers robin

I like it!

 By: tudorctin : December 16th, 2014-09:34
It's a nice watch! I can't wait to see it in metal! Constantin

Same here!

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 17th, 2014-00:49
I also can't wait :) I am sure the dial is beautiful. Am praying it fits my small wrist. I think it will be ok at least with the steel bracelet :D Cheers robin

A little brother to the VC World Time?

 By: Tick Talk : December 20th, 2014-06:56
Looks like a case of incest in the Richemont family! Since I like the VC though, gotta like this baby too ;-)

Nice to hear from you again Dean :)

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : December 22nd, 2014-15:41
Lol! It's interesting - I noticed the brands in the Richemont group both help each other but also compete with each other rather fiercely in the market. A rather fine balance of siblings in the same corporate group. I guess siblings want each other to suc...
