Montblanc, Signature International, Sotheby's and Unicef hosted a charity gala on the evening of September 17th that featured an auction of twelve unique Montblanc pens and twelve signed portraits of movie stars for the benefit of the Unicef Foundation. The well attended event received over 100 guests who were celebrities, watch and pen aficionados, and philanthropists. Many guests had come from across the United States, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries to attend the event.

Press release of the event can be found on News Central:

Montblanc has committed itself to raising $1.5 million US Dollars in 2009 and 2010 to benefit the Unicef foundation through the sales of Montblanc products and unique events. A total of $224,000, about 15% of the $1.5 million goal, was raised during this evening through the auctioning of twelve lots. The lots ranged in hammer price between $15,000 to $30,000. Eva Longoria's portrait and accompanying fountain pen fetched the highest bid by a telephone bidder.

The Unicef Foundation provides access to clean water, welfare, and education focusing on literacy skills to children in 150 countries. However, despite tremendous efforts from Unicef, a staggering 24,000 children die each day from preventable causes.

Montblanc has supported the Unicef foundation for many years and has already raised money and awareness to support the Unicef Foundation's efforts. For this event, Montblanc donated twelve solid gold pens, organized the sitting of twelve actresses to have their photo-portraits taken, and sponsored the entire event. It's warming to see a successful company like Montblanc give back to the community when they can.

Here are some photographs of the event itself. All photographs are provided by Montblanc for display on the PuristSPro website only.

Many thanks to Montblanc for organizing this charity event and for their continued philanthropy to improve the literacy rate of the world. I very much enjoyed attending this event and I hope to see and hear more of such events from all companies in the future.
