Montblanc - Celebrating the Spirit of Meisterstuck Exhibition Launch and party

Aug 02, 2014,08:33 AM

Montblanc Singapore is currently organizing an exhibition in Singapore from 1 to 4 Aug 2014, at the Civic Plaza in Ngee Ann City.
This is to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Montblanc's commitment to fine craftsmanship, starting with their fountain pen back in 1924.

The Meisterstuck collection has now extended over to their leather goods, jewelry/accessories as well as watches, and the highlight to us PuristS is the creation of the Meisterstuck Heritage collection in SIHH 2014.

There will be a series of events for Montblanc in Singapore over the next few days, starting with a big launch of the exhibition and a big party last night on 1 Aug.
As a Montblanc collector, I was fortunate to be invited to the exhibition's launch last night (as well as the party!). Here's a report to share with PuristS here.
Sorry for the low quality photos - my camera didn't work last min and I had to take iPhone shots.

A large tentage is set up at the Civic Plaza of Ngee Ann city - a photo before the event started.

The entrance to the exhibition.

Grand displays of Meisterstuck products from pens to watches to leather goods and guests could view/try and enjoy these products of fine craftsmanship and have their cocktail and food at the same time.
There were also displays of the history and developments of Montblanc's pens, watches and leather goods for guests to appreciate. In addition, there were 2 master craftsman present to showcase their traditional crafts to the guests.
Mr Axel Nier, a master penmaker from their manufacture in Hamburg and Mr Julien Miribel, a master watchmaker from Montblanc Villeret.

It was a big party with hundreds of guests! As usual, Montblanc Singapore organized such large scale events with ease!

The nicely set up stage with an impressive Montblanc emblem.

Before the celebrities arrive, I quickly took the chance to look at my favorite Montblanc products... their watches! smile

Here are some vintage Minerva timepieces. Very rare and difficult to acquire one now in mint condition. I really love the chronograph wristwatch with the legendary 13-20 calibre. I hope to cover these in more details on a next post.

Some modern Minervas with extremely well finished movements and well crafted cases in the form of highly exlusive Montblanc Villerets.

The Montblanc Villeret Pulsograph with the superb white enamel dial (LE 58 pieces) was on display.

A look at Julien's watchmaking desk with all his tools. Julien as usual, explained his work with lots of passion to his guests

Suddenly, many guests, especially the ladies turned their attention to the entrance again. The guest of honor, a popular Asian actor, Mr Mark Chao arrives.

The lady guests I was with all commented how handsome he was... I thought surely the PuristSPro Montblanc moderator looked equally good? No? smile

With my Montblanc Star Worldtime. My Montblanc Villeret was jealous I didn't bring him for this event! It's difficult to read the time in the dark but heck I still enjoy this watch a lot that night.

The lovely emcee introducing Mark Chao and it was interesting to hear how Mark described acting and performing with passion similar to the master craftsmen's passion in Montblanc. Seeing videos of how they produced Minerva movements (some day I will visit their manufacture in Villeret) and how the nibs of the fountain pens are produced, as well as interacting with the craftsmen that night, I clearly could relate to the amount of passion and pride they have on their products.

Mr Andreas Boesch, Managing Director of Montblanc South East Asia and Mr Mark Chao launching the official start of the exhibition

As I also love Montblanc's pens especially their fountain pens as I recently got the 149 Meisterstuck 90th anniversary edition with red gold trim, I took a tour of Mr Axel Nier's workstation too. See the beautiful fountain pen nibs crafted from solid 18k red gold. I love this shade of red gold and I wish their watches can have this color too (I will check again but I think their pens and belts' red gold is redder than their watch cases).

The party begins with a great DJ. Towards the end of the party, I finally could have a drink with my close friend, Julien (who played a key role in my journey to Montblanc watches particularly Montblanc Villeret) as well as Mr Axel Nier, who taught me a lot about fountain pens last night.

All I could say was both master craftsman were so passionate about their respective crafts when they shared with me their products - they really want these traditional crafts to be passed down to future generations. Electronic methods of writing and telling time have become commonplace but the tradition of fine mechanical timepieces and pens will always be around for those who appreciate them.

Here's a toast to both master craftsmen (the leather craftsman couldn't make it to this event I heard) and to Montblanc, for continuing their commitment and journey in fine European craftsmanship! Let us all join them in celebrating the Spirit of Meisterstuck.

I look forward to the next major anniversary and milestone after this 90th anniversary of the Meisterstuck. I am sure by the next major anniversary, we will see more interesting and fine products from Montblanc, under the leadership of Mr Lambert.

Hope you have enjoyed this virtual tour with me. smile

Thank you Montblanc Singapore for the invite. I appreciate the hard work organizing such a large scale event and I wish you all the best for the next few days in the exhibition.

Cheers
Robin
