How is the Metamorphosis 2 different?

Goldenlutin asked the question.

So based on the available information we can see that even though the concept and function are similar, the mechanism is different.

From the original PR of Metamorphosis 1 in 2010:

-Total of 567 parts (including those which make up Caliber 16.29)
-Transformation occurs in 15 seconds

From the PR of Metamorphosis 2
- Total of 746 parts (including the base 16.29)
-Transformation occurs in 5 seconds.

But even more important, remember the Metamorphosis is first creation of the Timewriter project.

Montblanc created the “TimeWriter” concept, under which the company wants to introduce projects with independent creators that have great ideas and plan to establish themselves as independent watchmakers.  Metamorphosis 1's technical achievements remain the intellectual property of the two watchmakers Johnny Girardin and Franck Orny.

But where are these watchmaker's names on the Metamorphosis 2 PR?  They are not written anywhere on the new press release!  Now are we to assume that Montblanc expects everyone to remember their names from 4 years ago when Metamorphosis 1 was revealed?  I doubt it.

So what are the possible explanations for this omission?

I think the obvious reason is that the Metamorphosis 2 is Montblanc's OWN creation.  After their collaboration with Girardin and Orny ended, Montblanc improved and made changes to this design.

This new movement is classified as MB M 67.40. (you can't really claim this if the technical achievements remain intellectual property of the original watchmakers)

Even more importantly the Girardin and Orny names are omitted from the chronograph dial (see below)

Metamorphosis 1

Metamorphosis 2 (see no names)

Also take a look at Telos Watch website (http://www.teloswatch.ch/) .  Telos Watch is the firm founded by Girardin and Orny.  Under their products, they list the Metamorphosis but it has the specifications of the original watch NOT this evolution.

What do you all think of my conclusion?

Is the Metamorphosis 2 a completely new Montblanc creation?

Cheers, Mike

Mike, I did not even know there was a question let alone an answer about the new Montblanc Metamorphosis 2. Your illustrative images cannot be denied.....how will we know the real explanation? Is this a secret contest? ;) MTF

I've already received a few emails asking "what the big deal was"

Many, and quite honestly a lot of the information on the internet, have not made the distinction that there is a difference between the two generations and these changes are more substantial than aesthetic changes. I don't think there is a correct answer ...

Hi Mike I chatted with Alex from Montblanc in Watches and Wonders on this topic. He clarified the difference in the number of parts. The 567 parts in the original Metamorphosis I was actually in the prototype version when it was launched in 2010. Over the...
