A quick clarification on the number of parts of the 2 versions
Oct 01, 2014,02:43 AM
Hi Mike
I chatted with Alex from Montblanc in Watches and Wonders on this topic. He clarified the difference in the number of parts.
The 567 parts in the original Metamorphosis I was actually in the prototype version when it was launched in 2010.
Over the next few years, Montblanc Villeret has been improving the movement for the Metamorphosis from the prototype movement.
A key factor to consider was for such a super watch (I compare such watches to super cars really!), the owner will likely transform the watch again and again to enjoy the transformation process. Montblanc had to make sure the movement is robust and reliable enough even after repeated activations for the dial transformation. As such, they fine-tuned the movement over the past few years and made it 746 parts.
The final Metamorphosis I production version, which went for sale around 2013 is actually having the movement with 746 parts. That piece which Gordon (GLau) tried on his wrist is a production version for sale in Montblanc Singapore and it has 746 parts for the movement.
The Metamorphosis 2 has the same 746 parts. It has the same movement as Metamorphosis 1 (the final production version).
Cheers
robin

I've already received a few emails asking "what the big deal was"

Many, and quite honestly a lot of the information on the internet, have not made the distinction that there is a difference between the two generations and these changes are more substantial than aesthetic changes. I don't think there is a correct answer ...
