Part 2- Montblanc SIHH 2014 Novelties

Apr 23, 2014,08:09 AM

I was greeted by Mike Giannattasio, the new President and Chief Executive Officer Montblanc North America.  Mike was grinning ear from ear since he was able to abscond with the new Timewalker Chronograph 100 on his wrist.

Of course the first watch I wanted to see was the Homage to Nicolas Rieussec chronograph.  IMHO this is the most successful and attractive interpretation of the Rieussec to date.  The redesign of the chronograph subdial also is a perfect link historically.

The ceramic hours ring with the impregnated superluminova is a concept dreamed up by Alex Schmidt and one of his designers. The process of realizing this technique is a secret... only Montblanc has access to it.

On my 7.5inch wrist.  Yes, it is number one on my "buy" list this year.

The Exotourbillon Tourbillon Rattrapante Chronograph was shown next.  If personaly finances would only allow for it, this is the piece that would replace the Rieussec at the top of the list.

The Meisterstuck Heritage Collection is a new line and focus for Montblanc.  With this collection, Mr. Lambert hopes to welcome more horologically inclined collectors into the Montblanc family.

The crown jewel of the collection.  The Monopusher Pulsographe.

The Heritage Perpetual Calendar...and it does look better on the wrist and in the metal than any photos I have seen.

The Moonphase is simply elegant.  If someone had to give a gift or buy the "one watch of a lifetime" this would fall on the short list.  Why?  It has brand recognition, it has classic design elements which will stay beautiful despite changing times, the moonphase complication will always start a conversation amongst non-watch enthusiasts, and most importantly it is powered by an ETA engine so it can be serviced rather inexpensively and easily by watchmakers worldwide.

But get it with this bracelet!  I love it.  5 pieces to its construction makes it super flexible and comfortable.

The Star Twin Moonphase.

And a surprise favorite from the event...a simple Timewalker.  The dial is not black, it is a dark metallic navy blue.

Other goodies

For PuristS who are wondering why I didn't highlight more watches...stay tuned.  We have a lot more to show in the next few weeks and months.

I'd like to thank Montblanc NA for inviting me to the event, Jonnice Slaughter, Alex Schmidt, and Mike Giannattasio for all the time and attention you've shown to our online community.

Enjoy, Mike

About two weeks ago I was invited to a Montblanc press event in TriBeCa where the SIHH 2014 novelties were being introduced for the first time here in the US. For those unfamiliar with New York City, TriBeCa is a neighborhood located in lower Manhattan. I...

Looks like another very successful Montblanc event to showcase their 2014 novelties. Great pics Mike! The Homage to Nicolas Rieussec's mysterious lume was especially well taken and illustrated by you. I am so in love with the Meisterstuck Heritage Perpetu...

I wasn't sold at first either however it has grown on me. I still am on the fence with the gold numbering on the steel case just because I prefer the rhodium polished numbers and hands supported by the stainless steel case that is common with the star 481...

Hi Todd, in the metal it grows on you

in regards to the gold numbering and hands, I think artists really like "tension" and contrast on their dial designs. I custom ordered a watch before and wanted to keep the dial simple but was convinced by the watchmaker to reconsider and have this type o...

Glad you like the Meisterstuck Heritage perpetual calendar too Todd

It certainly grows on me over time. Like you, I had said I was against the two tone steel case with rose gold hands and indices but when I saw the watch in the metal, the contrast looks better than on pics and now I have a slight preference to the steel v...
