Tell us more about your Rieussec

Oct 15, 2012,10:31 AM

It is indeed unusual for you to sport the same watch for such a long period of time!  You must really like your watch.  Any specific nuances you noticed about your Rieussec that you liked in particular?  Any thoughts Mrs MTF pays to the watch?

I actually like the "garden variety" of the Rieussec.  The Hometime version is unique because of its partially exposed movement with the cut-out in the dial, but in practicality, I personally prefer the model without such a cut-out.

The X-Pro is indeed a watch capable of 3 time zones if one starts the 12-hour chronograph at just the right time.  With this Rieussec, it's perfect to start the chronograph at exactly on the hour or exactly 30 minutes past the hour.  And the way the discs move is so discreet that it doesn't make the dial look busy.

Thanks!

Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Hometime On the Wrist Review By Patrick Yuan We are fortunate to be witnessing the formation and evolution of a brand that will one day join the list of Horological Greats. In a decade, Montblanc has created a phenom...

An argument can be made for the Rieussec Hometime . . .

. . . with regard to the arc of illegibility. It begins at 4 and ends at 8, precisely when a gentleman should be preoccupied with Happy Hour! Terrific review, Patrick. It reminds me of the pleasure experienced with the Retour-à-Zéro . . . . . . a few year...

Montblanc has an oustanding offer, in terms of chronographs, of FINE chronongraphs... Even if this one won't take the place of the P 10 in my heart, for some sentimental ( our Tenth Anniversary ) and horolgical ( I prefer manual chronographs to automatic ...

Thank you for your comments Nicolas. The Rieussec indeed did exhibit an overly polished bracelet. This, along with the thickness of the watch, were the two most limiting factors. The Rolex Oyster bracelet is an exceptional bracelet, truly one of the best ...

I enjoyed your review and the attention you payed to this watch and its movement, particurly your discussion of the vertical clutch. I had an opportunity to try one of these on in Beverly Hills and like you I was impressed with the watch, particulary at i...

Which ones have you tried?

Which model did you try CaliforniaJed? I think that anthracite model with its smoky dial and two time zone tracking would be the ideal model for you if you were to consider one. Plus, the smoky dial will remind you to use the smoker and BBQ more often. Th...

Enlightening review Patrick!

The Rieussec has much to commend it: the originality of the movement and its finishing, the kinds of complications which I think are all very useful, the very legible dial. I would love to see a more modern interpretation (ala the Timewalker series) but I...

Really depends on your shirts...

 By: patrick_y : October 10th, 2012-11:00
I almost always wear shirts that are relatively fitted (not custom tailored, just very fitted). The cuffs on these shirts are relatively small, anything thicker than a Rolex Submariner (which is a tight fit already where the button would break) would not ...

When I reviewed the Rieussec a few years ago, I didn't think it was too thick to not fit under my shirt cuff. I think it may not fit under your shirt cuff because you have a really small wrist, hence your cuff circumference is smaller than most guys. It's...

Agree and agreed...

I agree about the shirt cuffs, proportionally, the clearance I have in my cuffs are rather small. This brushed/satin finished bracelet would soften out most of the polished finish on the watch case. Here's a picture of a Rieussec that looks very discreet ...

I see a hand wind variant in my future. I was especially pleased with the details of the bracelet. It says a lot when great comfort can be achieved on a small wrist, as that cannot be said for many brands.

Definitely a great fit on the bracelet.

 By: patrick_y : October 11th, 2012-10:49
You are absolutely correct, we often times see imprecise fitments in the bracelet. My primary bracelet watch has always felt too tight or too loose and there's little that I can do about it (they make a very ugly 1.5 link that I'm considering to procure a...

While I have some issues with the design (I don't like the night/day and date indicator windows in particular), and don't think it's necessarily an easy-on-the-eyes dial for telling time, I do appreciate the historical connection to the Rieussec timewrite...

You are absolutely correct in all aspects. I'm now gravitating towards the non-Hometime version as well, the gray dialed variant I had a picture of towards the end of the review. that one is easier to read because it doesn't have the cut-out in the dial. ...

That's a great idea, to have a transparent sapphire ring or sapphire discs. That would be unique. You're correct, there's a certain solid feeling one gets with that watch. A very solid feeling with a solid heft to the watch case. I love the design of the ...

Non-GMT?

 By: Roller.959 : October 25th, 2012-14:38
Just to note, there is no non-GMT version of the automatic Rieussecs. The only non-GMT versions are the manual wind MB R1XX versions which are three times the price.
