My Test Vehicle

Mar 02, 2009,12:39 PM

My test vehicle had a computer screen that indicated all of the information about the vehicle. The car was about 70% charged when I got the vehicle. During my test drive where the car exhibited very aggressive driving, the car's computer said the car would run for another 68 miles with the kind of driving style I had been partaking. The car's computer also said that if I were to drive more normally (as in the super modest EPA cycle) the car could achieve another 188 miles in range (I don't remember the exact figure).

This is about what I expected, for instance if I had a sports car from Maranello or Sant'Agata and I were to drive it aggressively, the entire tank of petrol can be expelled in around 100 miles. However, if I were to drive in an extremely relaxed fashion, the vehicles can have a range of around 350 miles.

These electric cars are really meant for short trip around the town driving. Remember, you've only got a usable range of 240 miles which means you should never have to drive more than 200 miles or else you risk running out of juice.

I am an avid fan of Top Gear, but even I have to admit it is honestly just a show for entertainment, it isn't based off of science. As fond as I am of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond (aka "Hamster"), and James May; when pressured I have to admit that they're all terrible drivers but good comedians. If you want to see some world class driving, watch Tiff Needell on Fifth Gear, who was actually once a race car driver.

The Tesla Representative didn't show me the technique, but I managed getting in and out of the car without exerting too much trouble. The roof does indeed detach and attach like the Elise. The Tesla features a targa type roof. Should you desire the roof t...

The BBC actually admitted that the car NEVER ran out of juice but they claim that the episode reflected what could have happened . Clarkson said this: "We never said once that the car had run out of power. The car had to be pushed into the warehouse becau...

This is the domain where I have a small amount of competence, my bread and butter job. Written about 6 months ago my conclusion was: " The Tesla Roadster may get 365 km Reichweite under certain circomstances (note the 450kg battery weight) and charging in...
