Forumners,
Somewhere in the rubric of our Constitution, we ask that price considerations be made secondary to the pure appreciation of watches.
Reading through the thread and just looking at the photos, I was struck by the dichotomy between the Opinion about the aesthetics and/or "hot-ness" of the watch and Opinion about the price point. Since when did we distil our selection down to mere 'money'?
Just from the photos, this Montblanc Sport Tantalum watch just looks cool and desirable, no matter how many XXX in its name!
It has a integrated feel and flowing design about it -- look at the dial inlays organically linking the markers. Accepting that the thin strap may be an ergoinomic problem, it's still one hot watch. Throw in the must-have tantalum case and it's a winner.
The engine inside - Valjoux 775x-series - is the best out there for an automatic chronograph that works in extreme conditions....no games -- just sports.
Regarding the dial indices, I only ask if the materials would wear out with time. There is no advantage of solid gold vs gold-plated markers for the intended location and use. There is no abrasion nor wear for intended use. This is not a grande complication safe-queen that I have to "merely look after for the next generation", comforted to know that I have 'real' solid gold dial markers. No discussions about "more gold for your money" because we cannot put a price on aesthetics.
Comparisons between the Montblanc Rieussec and Sport XXXL Tantalum chronographs are valid, insofar as a choice based on aesthetics and even the engine inside (for those who care about those things). Then, I would choose the Rieussec not because of the 'cost' or 'value' but because I like the 'bovine dial'

MTF
